DJ / Artist Profile
Roquetzal
Boston, MA, United States
David Emmanuel Roque, known as Roquetzal, is a DJ, musician, and sonic storyteller born in Queens, New York and raised in Boston by Guatemalan parents. His sets are a psychedelic and ceremonial experience, blending Afro house, Afro-Latin house, and Latin rhythms to balance high energy with emotional release. As a multi-instrumentalist on bass guitar, drums, and congas, he brings a musician's ear to the decks, treating every set as song medicine. His sound lives at the intersection of Afro house, melodic techno, and tribal Afro tech, creating a yin-yang dynamic of light and dark textures that move between deep, hypnotic grooves and soaring, emotional peaks. He layers in tech house and deep minimal with a sense of experimentation, reading the crowd with an intuitive feel for when to push the energy and when to let the room breathe. A signature of his sets is the marimba, weaving its warm, wooden tones through many of the tracks he selects, a nod to his Guatemalan roots that grounds the electronic landscape in something ancestral. His influences are rooted in the lineages of legends like Black Coffee, Louie Vega, and Chus and Ceballos. Roquetzal has shared lineups with Black Coffee, Bora Uzer, Embrz, Grillo, Dor Danino, Adam Gibbons, Coco and Breezy, Austin Millz, Tabu, Warung, Josh Butler, and Jeff Sorkowitz. Whether he's opening for international heavyweights or holding down a room on his own, his approach stays the same: build a journey that honors the ancestral while pushing the dancefloor forward. From Boston's underground to destination sets, Roquetzal brings a Guatemalan-rooted, ceremony-minded energy to every stage he touches.
